桂平市白沙镇白沙村的种植大户黄家清摸索出“木薯套种西瓜”的模式，比单纯种木薯亩增加收入1500元。
2007年，黄家清引进良种木薯华南205、南植199等新品种。为了提高土地利用率，增加复种指数，黄家清在木薯地里试验套种西瓜。一造下来，经农业专家验收，西瓜平均亩产达到了3567多公斤，收入2853多元；木薯平均亩产2.5吨，亩产值1250元。
黄家清的套种技术试验成功后，迅速在当地群众中传开，群众纷纷采用木薯套种西瓜的种植模式。目前，全镇3500户农民推广套种面积达1万多亩，西瓜平均亩产达3吨，木薯2.5吨以上，采用这种高效种植模式，平均亩产值达3000元以上，比单纯种植木薯增加收入1500元以上。
