China and Ethiopia Sign Cassava Export Protocol

According to the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, on November 27, 2025, China and Ethiopia signed a protocol in Addis Ababa, officially allowing Ethiopian cassava to be exported to the Chinese market. The agreement was signed by China's General Administration of Customs and Ethiopia's Ministry of Agriculture, marking a key step for Ethiopia in diversifying agricultural exports and strengthening bilateral trade. Cassava is widely grown in southern and southwestern Ethiopia as a food security crop and an emerging industrial raw material. With increasing global demand for starch, feed, and biofuels, Ethiopia is promoting cassava commercialization through improved seeds, expanded cultivation, and market linkages. This protocol will create a stable export destination, encourage investment in the cassava value chain, and help producers access one of the world's largest and fastest-growing markets for cassava products.
