近年来，崇左市江州区左州镇群众在当地农技人员的指导下，积极推广农作物间套种种植模式，提高土地利用率，从而提高经济效益。他们利用红壤地推广的“木薯+玉米+西瓜”的种植模式，亩产值可达到4500元以上，成为几年来间套种模式的新亮点，创下了间套种模式的经济效益的新高。
根据江州区经作物站技术人员对该模式的产量和产值进行测产结果，该模式每亩平均产西瓜1.5吨， 产值1600元（2011年收购价），亩平均产玉米240公斤，产值480元，亩平均产木薯2.6吨，产值1820元，平均亩总产值达到3900元。成为当前江州区各类农作物间套种模式中经济效益最为显著的模式之一。
该模式的主要种植规格：木薯种植规格为1米×1米（行距×株距）；玉米种植规格为2米×1米（行距×株距），即每两行木薯间种一行玉米，玉米以“双株植”为宜；西瓜种植密度为每亩150苗—160苗为宜。
