柬埔寨《华商日报》２００７年１１月７日报道说，该国出产的木薯近年来逐渐受到国际商家欢迎，一些公司在收获季节到农村以高价收购，促使当地农民增加种植面积。
报道说，今年新鲜木薯的价格为每公斤２５０瑞尔（约合６美分），比往年略涨。那些前去收购木薯的商家多以１公顷２５０美元至５００美元的价格包购整块土地上的木薯，有的地块甚至达到１公顷６００美元。
报道还说，在一些地方甚至出现抢购木薯的情况。前来收购木薯的国际商家大多来自韩国、越南和日本，他们往往比别的商家出价更高，大量收购木薯用作生产酒精和煤气的原料。
