锌在玉米体内参与光合作用有关酶的组成成分，直接影响光合作用过程。据试验，玉米施锌一般增产8%～13%，其施用方法主要有以下几点：
1、种子处理:每千克玉米种子用4~6克硫酸锌,加适量水溶解后浸种或拌种。
2、基施:每亩用硫酸锌1~2千克,在播种前均匀撒施，由于锌肥在土壤中难以移动,施在土壤表面的锌对植物一般是无效的。撒施锌肥后,再耕翻将锌肥混入土壤效果更好。
3、种肥：每亩用硫酸锌0.5千克左右掺细干土10~15千克，条施与播种沟内，但不宜与种子接触。
4、喷施：在玉米苗期、拔节期、大喇叭口期、抽穗期均可喷施0.2%的硫酸锌溶液，每亩喷50千克左右，但以苗期和拔节期喷施效果较好。叶面喷施是玉米出现缺锌症状时一种良好的补救措施。
