4月18日，安农业部农业发展局局长恩翁嘎向安通社发表一份新闻稿披露，安农业部将在短期内安排在中南部的万博、威拉、库内内和库邦戈等省大力引入木薯种植，解决因干旱造成的粮食短缺。在中南部发展木薯种植属于农业部“木薯传统产区恢复计划”。经验表明，木薯比南部地区种植的玉米、稻谷、高粱等植物适应性、抗旱性都强。粮食是南部地区人口的主要食物来源，由于上述粮食种植很脆弱，每年一旦进入旱季，即出现食物短缺问题。
马兰热、威热、北款扎省木薯广泛种植，木薯插条（相当于木薯种子）已经发往中南部木薯计划复种区。
木薯在安哥拉获得广泛种植，如2007/2008农业生产年度，木薯产量达150万吨。
